Ritualiser le quotidien (ou lorsque le quotidien devient rituel) : mise en scène des gestes et des mots dans The Day He Arrives (2011) et Right Now, Wrong Then (2015) d’Hong Sangsoo
Abstract
Daily life, like ritual, refers to repetition, to what is done every day, according to a certain order. Hence, how can we ritualize the everyday life without limiting ourselves to a certain order in what can repeat itself? This text will question the relationship between ritual and the everyday life through the cinema of Hong Sangsoo, a filmmaker who has the particularity of including daily rituals at the heart of his films and his practice. Starting with The Day He Arrives (2011), we will focus on the repetition of gestures, then we will look at Right Now, Wrong Then (2015), where we will focus on these verbal conventions that are the basis of everyday interactions. Theses filmic analyses will raise certain questions: do the repetitions of gestures and words give them a certain sacredness? What do they reveal about the ritual and the everyday life?
